I’m listening to: KIKI by Kiana Ledé

I'm back! Happy Quarantine!

Today I’m bringing you my [current] top 3 tracks from Kiana Ledé’s debut album “KIKI”. First sort of album review... #newventures. But couldn't start with a better album.

Okay, let’s get the facts out the way first.

Who is Kiana Ledé?

There’s genuinely Google, so for the sake of getting to the music ASAP because I am super excited to share it with you guys, I’m gonna keep this short.

Kiana is US based (one thing the states do correctly is appreciate R&B), she’s 23, has insanely beautiful vocals and I’ve been following her on twitter for a little bit now – she keeps the timeline entertaining. I didn’t even know ostriches were SO DAMN BIG till she mentioned it once. Wild.

“KIKI” (pictured above) is her debut album. She’s previously released two EP’s, “Selfless” and “Myself”. The thing about Kiana, every project she puts out is easily part of the #NoSkips club. This entire album has literally been on rotation since it dropped earlier this month on April 3rd.

I’ve been wanting to write this blog post for the longest but not gonna lie, I was having far too much enjoyment vibing to the album, taking time to get into it, discovering my favourites because you know, sometimes you’ll listen to an album in a certain headspace and a bish will be biased screaming her lungs out while crying actual tears to “Second Chances”. It happens.

Without further ado – these are the 3 tracks currently on my shower playlist.

1. Crazy.

15 seconds into this track you already know it’s gonna be a good one. Now, let’s talk lyrical content. You know when someone gets under your skin so much it makes you act out of character? Like you could be the most chill person in the world but this person gets you soooo heated. You know you’re acting crazy but highkey they’ve pressed all your buttons to get you there so it’s lowkey justified? Madness. Love. Sigh.

My favourite lines (because the delivery is amazing too):

“You done pushed me to a point that got me looking crazy”
“But you been moving shady, you been moving shady... I don’t even know who you been f*cking lately”

I related to this feeling more than I would like to admit.

2. Labels.

This one is FUN. Biggie fans will recognise the “Juicy” sample. “Labels” is the kind of track that will get you out your feels knowing that f*ckboy (or girl, let’s not discriminate there’s trash everywhere nowadays) sure as hell won’t find another you. I mean buddy, you tick every important box AND flex in the bedroom too? Yeah, that realisation has to sting.

Lines I sing with hella attitude:

“All this money that you talkin, I already spent that. Every dollar that I gave you, I need every cent back!”

It's lit forreal.

3. Good Girl.

Give me a beautiful guitar riff and I am sold. That’s how this track starts. I’m also a sucker for emotional content. Plus the Col3trane feature definitely belongs here. I am gonna need people to stop hurting Kiana, though – hearing her on this track hurt my soul. How many of us relate to falling for the wrong individual? Waste of time AND tears. I guess the bad ones have a good side initially - I call those masters of manipulation. Must all get better at identifying them.

The lyric that genuinely stabbed me in my chest:

“Know if I put you to a test, you ain’t gon' ace it.”

The lyric I am internalising for every future scenario:

“Take my own advice, 'cause I’m always right.”

Intuition is blessed.

BONUS POINT: "Skiterlude" might just be my favourite interlude EVER. A whole mood.

Like I said, this album has NO skips on it. I had been waiting on it for a while and she did not disappoint. One of my favourite releases this year. Deffo check it out and let me know your faves.

Anddddd for anyone who loves the album, you’re just in time for tour! Kiana is hitting up Europe in October, check the dates here.
