This Friday morning (Oct. 2), I woke up to a new song and video from Shawn Mendes, “Wonder”, and a new song from Ella Mai, “Not Another Love Song”.
This is the first we hear and see of Shawn’s upcoming fourth project. Visually, "Wonder" is stunning. It’s a cinematic video that could easily pass as a Disney live action trailer. The opening speeding train scene gave me Enola Holmes vibes. It would not have been out of place in the Netflix adaptation.
The forest scenes where Shawn attempts some interpretative dancing, bring a somewhat magical element. Shawn himself, seen in his grey trousers and white vest, is reminiscent of a runaway or lost Prince.
Ultimately, I personally think the video is bigger than the song. Maybe the song needs some time to grow? I don't know. I guess we'll see.
Moving on to Ella Mai! If you follow my playlists, you'll know I go through my Ella phases. The title made me laugh. "Not Another Love Song". Ella writes about love. Before hitting play, I wasn't sure if she meant it as 'no– this is not about love', or 'yes guys, it's another one of these...sigh'.
– I don't wanna mess this up, could it be too much to say I'm in?
Yep, it's another one LOL. There's not much to say about Ella. She doesn't miss? You know you're either getting a read, or in your feels RnB. This one is in your feels. I will say, it's on my playlist but it's miles away from where my head is and has been at, so I probably won't have this one on repeat. Still, I definitely appreciate it's one for the solid RnB fans.
